St. Lucia (full day)

St Lucia Lake and estuary system was founded nearly 60 to 100 million years ago during the cretaceous period when the Indian Ocean began to recede from what is today the sandy coastal plain of Kwazulunatal. The estuary has recently been declared a World Heritage Site. The lush vegetation of grassland, patches of forest mangroves and ferns and the permanent supply of water provides a home to a great variety of antelope as well as approximately 1000 crocodiles and 700 hippos. Fish life is also prodigious and includes kob, grunter, mullet and mud bream. The bird life is prolific and a number of bird species including pelicans, flamingos, cormorants, fish eagles and herons can be spotted.
